Step Two: Calculate Costs.

Advertising — There are many platforms at your disposal for getting in front of people who are likely to purchase your goods/services. You don’t have to choose just one, but you should consider all of your costs, including development, and not just advertising spend, when analyzing whether a campaign is effective or not.

Content Creation — This one isn’t as easy to calculate, because you have to value your time, but in more advanced scenarios, you’ll also have production costs and editing, maybe even a team on payroll for graphics, acting, syndication… all of that must be factored in for each piece of constant that you create.

Affiliates & Referral Partners — A lot of businesses love this model, because the majority of the expenses are only incurred after a sale is made. Until you reach a certain level, you will have to invest a significant amount of time and energy into setting it up, attracting affiliates and referral partners and managing them, so make sure you factor that in.

Step Three: Break Even.

This is usually the part that trips people up. Don’t focus solely on your main product or service as the only source of revenue for paying your bills. Instead, consider any or all of these options:
