Just Get It Done

(A quick story about my last few days)

Around 6:30pm Tuesday I tucked myself in for a little nap. After two hours of what I can only describe as a delightful recharge, I started packing for a family vacation. Once the car was packed I was finally able to hit the road with Kismet at 10:30.

I normally prefer to drive through the night to avoid traffic and arrive at my destination without feeling like I wasted a full day traveling. Anyway, I was off from Tampa Bay on a trek north to a beach house in Delaware to celebrate my Dad’s 70th birthday week with my parents, siblings, their spouses, and kids. 12 of us, in one house for five days!

I made it about four hundred miles before my dash lit up like a Christmas tree. Automatic transmission oil temp blinking, check engine light on, flashing brake light, and the cruise control stopped working with that light going off as well. Needless to say, this was not what I needed at 4am!

My first though was
 Awesome 😕

I was too far in to turn back, it was too early to check with a mechanic, and I had a sleeping poodle in the back seat. I slowed down, checked the interwebs to see what they said, and decided to soldier on

I drove another hour and a half until I decided to pull over and give the car a break to see if it would cool down and some lights would go off. Backed into an end spot at a Starbucks parking lot and pulled out my pillow and caught some zees. Woke up after an hour, went in to use the facilities, grabbed a mango dragonfruit refresher, and took đŸ© for a walk. Switched the car back on, and nothing changed.

At this point, I was gonna risk it. Decided to stay right around the speed limit, so I anticipated it taking a little longer than expected. While on the drive, I did a little research and found the closest dealer to where we were staying. They close at 5, and at my current speed, I would make it with forty minutes to spare. (Oh yeah, and I have a zoom call at 4:30)

Long story short

Made it to the dealer, got a rental car, switched out the luggage, took the call by the woods behind the parking lot, and drove another hour to the beach house. Had dinner with the fam and then crashed.

Woke up at 5:55am , went for a five mile run on the beach, cooled down and showered before leaving to make our 8:33 tee time to play golf with my brother-in-law. Got home, ate, showered, and now I’m typing this.

TL/DR - Life’s short, you’re gonna get thrown curve balls, swing for the fences and deal with the consequences. You’re gonna strike out a lot, but every once in a while, you’ll hit a home run and it’ll all be worth it.

Back to vacation,

P.S. The car will be fine. They have to order a solenoid, but it’s all gonna work out.
